Previously known as Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair, the Swedish iconoclastic fashion brand V Ave Shoe Repair has mixed transparency, leather and fluid draping to create a distinctly urban Spring Summer 2012 collection for its ready-to-wear (RTW).
Inspired by the ink art of Hermann Rorschach – yes, the same Swiss Freudian psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, best-known for developing the Rorschach inkblot test – the collection’s palette is a mix of faded grey and beige with black and white in soft cotton jersey and shots of silk satin.
There is volume in the draped pieces – including the terribly hard to wear “harem” pants or drop-crotch pants – but the relaxed silhouette is softly feminine when translated into dresses and wide-collared tees.
One of the best examples of this is a very girlie pleated chiffon bubble skirt in beige and a beautifully cut silk satin mini dress with a folded and draped neckline which interestingly will fit into a ladylike look or a more alternative style.
V Ave Shoe Repair’s outstanding tailoring skills can be seen in a series of neat jackets – there’s a shrunken tuxedo and a double-faced cropped version – as well as some seriously well-cut trousers.
The brand’s signature jeans and super-light tees are also back in new colour ways of light grey, white and black.
All in all, the V Ave Shoe Repair Spring Summer 2012 collection once again produces clothes that are interesting without being unwearable. This is a fashion label that just seems to be improving in leaps and bounds; grab something now before everyone realises how good it is and prices go through the roof.
