It’s time to get back to skincare basics, folks.
That’s the advice of international skin guru Dr. Andrew Weil who believes women should ditch complex and unpronounceable skincare components in favour of time-tested natural ingredients.
And the key ingredient we should be looking for? Trusty old vitamin C.
It might not be a new breakthrough and it’s not particularly glamorous, but as far as Dr. Weil is concerned, vitamin C is key to achieving a peachy complexion.
“The past few years have seen consumers become more suspicious about complex skincare components,” he told this month’s Red magazine.
“There’s a notable return to tried and trusted ingredients that consumers can recognise and believe in.”
So, what’s so great about vitamin C? Essential in the formation of skin-saving collagen and elastin, it also serves as a key antioxidant, protecting us from environmental irritants, including UV exposure, pollution and poor diet.
“Sufficient vitamin C in the skin can significantly block the pathways of irritation,” says Dr. Weil.
“This reduces inflammation, keeping your complexion hydrated, smooth and looking young.”
Here are some vitamin C-enriched products to try.
