Zumba Wave Event
Experience Zumba in a different way – outdoors and with a calming sea breeze. Six world-class trainers from Singapore, Philippines, The Netherlands and Argentina will be running this massive one-of-a-kind Zumba class that anyone would be able to enjoy. There will be lucky draws where you can stand to win one of five L’Oreal hampers worth $100. Be sure to bring along your friends – for every five tickets purchased, you will receive one for free.

Istana Art Event
The 12th Istana Art Event, in conjunction with the Istana Open House, aims to cultivate appreciation of the arts and our national heritage by making it available to all. Children aged 3 – 12 can take part in the On-The-Spot art competition, where the winners will receive prizes from President Tony Tan. The first 1000 participants who make submissions will also receive an Istana Art Event goodie bag.

5 August, 8am – 5pm
Venue: Istana Grounds
Price: Free. Non-Singaporeans will be charged $1.
Entry into the Istana Main Building is ticketed at $2, but is complimentary for all On-The-Spot art competition participants. The money will go towards supporting the President’s Challenge.

Singapore Short Cuts
The widely anticipated Singapore Short Cuts is a showcase of the best local short films this year. The programme will feature themes such as marriage, national service, pursuit of one’s dreams, immigration and identity, which are all things Singaporean’s grapple with and ponder in their daily lives. The screenings will be followed by post-screening discussions with the filmmakers. For more information, please visit the National Museum of Singapore’s website.

Venue: Gallery Theatre, The National Museum of Singapore
Price: Free tickets can be collected at the National Museum of Singapore on a first-come, first-served basis, with remaining tickets given out at the door.

Nation Pride 2012
The Everyday Revolution, a non-profit organization that advocates special needs artists in Singapore, have commissioned work from three artists with autism, based on five themes that represent Singapore. Drawing inspiration from their original pieces, 23 Parco next NEXT designers created pieces that reveal their interpretation of the artists’ work. Nation Pride aims to bring focus to local artists and designers, and also depict their views on what the heart and soul of Singapore truly is.

Date and time: 4 – 12 August, 10.30am – 9.30pm
Venue: Parco Next Next, Level 2
Price: Entry is free. All 23 wearable art pieces and 5 commissioned paintings will be on sale. Proceeds from the event will go to the support of special needs artists recommended by The Everyday Revolution.

Harvard Din & Tonics
Harvard University’s all-male jazz a cappella group, the Din & Tonics, will be hitting our shores on their world tour, which has taken them to locales like Britain, France, Slovenia, Japan and Australia. Two of their concerts here will be to raise funds for the Autism Resource Centre. They will also have free public performances at Capella Singapore.

Venue: School of the Arts Concert Hall

Tools of the Trade Baking Classes
Getting into the mood of the Hari Raya festivities, brush up your baking skills with the help of Tools of The Trade’s resident chef, Chef Nurain Saip, whose specialties include decorative cakes and pastries. Showcased recipes will include Cheese Cookies, Flourless Chocolate Cake with Ganache and Lemon Meringue with Milk Chocolate Verrine.

Project Fitness 80
The 2011 Great East Japanese Earthquake served as a devastating wake-up call, for MUJI designers Naoto Fukasawa and Hans Tan, which led them to question excess and wastage in today’s world. Project Fitness 80 is led by the rule that products should be created using only 80% of “required” materials without diminishing their functionalities. The MUJI products in this exhibition display simple, minimalistic designs that maximise their usage.

Breakfast Run
In preparation for the Great Eastern Women’s Run in November, The Breakfast Run will help participants learn about fitness, nutrition and wellness. Participants will start off with a leisurely 3km, followed by a food preparation session conducted by Cookyn Inc chefs that will teach them how put together a hearty healthy meal, and guidelines on calorie-counts. Wholesome capsule meals will be made available to the public at the Singapore Flyer until September 4.
