She’s got the voice of an angel and will be serenading us with this year’s National Day theme song, Love at First Light. We speak with Olivia Ong to learn more about the girl behind those saccharine vocals, and are pleasantly surprised. Beatboxing, you say? Check out the video below to find out more.
HWP: What’s the one thing you like most about being a singer?
Olivia Ong: I love experimenting with my voice, pushing the limits, and seeing what I can do with it, it's quite a challenge.
HWP: Aside from the National Day rehearsals, what else have you been busy with lately?
OO: I've been busy preparing for my upcoming concert in Taipei. It's going to be really exciting because the musicians I’m working with this time are my friends, and they're really talented. I’m really looking forward to this show!
HWP: You’ve starred in Kelvin Tong’s production, It’s a Great, Great World. Which would you say you prefer; singing or acting?
OO: Oh gosh, I really enjoy both, especially the creative process. Of course singing is my number one priority right now, but I hope that I’ll get the chance to explore acting more in the future.
HWP: What do you do to relax when you’re not performing/rehearsing?
OO: I like to go for walks. I also like losing myself in music or in books, because it’s like being transported into a different world. Movies are great for that too.
HWP: Any crazy fan stories to share?
OO: I love my fans, they're not crazy! They're all really nice. Oh wait, there was this one time, when I received a marriage proposal in the mail. I thought that was quite crazy seeing as how I’ve never even met that individual before.
