Yet another culinary gem has sprung up in the hip enclave that is Keong Saik Street and we can’t wait to sink our teeth into its delightful offerings.
The newly opened Keong Saik Snacks has been gaining favour with the hipster crowd and we think it may have something to do, not just with the location, but the mouth-watering snacks too.
The casual bistro is part brainchild of Michelin Star Chef Jason Atherton, who heads the culinary direction for the eatery, as well as acclaimed Singapore hotelier and restaurateur Loh Lik Peng.
Atherton is also behind two other successful ventures – Pollen at Gardens by the Bay and tapas bar, Esquina, along nearby Jiak Chuan Road, while Loh heads Hotel 1929, New Majestic Hotel and Wanderlust including award-winning restaurants such as Jing and Cocotte.
Taking a leaf from both local and British café culture, the 30-seater bistro boasts a laid-back environment with comfort foods from all-around the world, as well as a well-curated wine and international beer list put together by award-winning head sommelier Laure Patry of Pollen Street Social in London.
Atherton enthuses, “I am very excited to bring a bit of my hometown to my second home Singapore. I love this island very much and it is a dream to be able to have a chic pint-sized joint to serve some of my favourite food”
A team of talented chefs including executive chef Andrew Walsh, who also helms the kitchen at Esquina, will be doling out favourites including Atherton’s modern take on Fish and Chips - Fish and Oysters, $18, served with homemade tartar sauce and drizzled with Maldon salt and malt vinegar, The Kimchi Burger, $20 and more.
The Kimchi Burger
The latter consists of a juicy Wagyu beef patty done to perfection and topped with Korean chilli and kimchi, served in a casual burger style
D-I-Y Tuna Tartare
Other must-trys include the quirky D-I-Y Tuna Tartare, $17, where you can mix all the ingredients up for a light and refreshing snack, and Jason’s Very Hot Dog, $19, featuring tangy ketchup lime, crispy shallots, English Cheddar, smooth-buttery avocado and spicy jalapeños.
Jason's Very Hot Dog
For those with a sweet tooth, check out the Hot Doughnuts with Cinnamon and Vanilla Chantilly, $8, on the side to end your meal.
The food is also served in traditional English pewter and tins, offering a quintessential British touch.
An unpretentious vibe, scrumptious and comfort food options - we are dying to check it out. Well, so should you before everyone is all over the place.
PS: Do check out The Library that’s located just beside Keong Saik Snacks. You may be in for a pleasant surprise.
