There’s a wealth of new generation foundations on the market, so which do you choose? We have rounded up the creamiest of the crop and spoken to Max Factor makeup artist Caroline Barnes for some expert tips on how to create the perfect base.
M.A.C Mineralize Moisture SPF15 foundation
Every season there is new product that sends makeup artists into a spin. For SS13 it’s M.A.C Mineralize Moisture SPF15 foundation. Used in the Costume National catwalk show by makeup artist Sally Branka, it creates a dewy, barely there, base which is perfect for everyday wear.
Tip: Always apply makeup standing straight-on in front of natural light. Light shouldn’t be coming from above (main light), behind you or from the side. If you have no access to natural light, try to use a mirror with lights around the frame.
Clarins Everlasting Foundation SPF 15
If you are on the go all day and don’t have time to touch your face up, then this foundation is perfect for you. It features silicones that will help the product adhere to your skin and create a slide-proof base.
Tip: To select the right foundation shade, colour-match it to the skin on your décolletage. This will make sure you’re even toned from chest to face.
Max Factor Face Finity All Day Flawless 3 in 1
Those clever folk at Max Factor have come up with the perfect solution for the time-poor, a 3 in 1 foundation. The intelligent formula has three elements; primer to hold, concealer to correct and foundation to finish, for a professional look with the minimum of fuss.
Tip: Try using two different shades of foundation on your skin. Faces can ended up looking quite flat after we have put on foundation and using two shades ensures you appear three dimensional. Use your normal shade around the outside of your face, taking it around the edges of your face. Use one shade lighter in the T-zone area, under your eyes and on top of eyebrows.
Bobbi Brown Natural Finish Long Lasting Foundation SPF 15
This foundation is extremely versatile and will work with all skin types; so when in doubt, reach for it.
Tip: Let your moisturiser sink in for five minutes, or else it might mix in with your foundation and ruin the consistency. If you don’t have time to wait, use a flat tissue to gently pat your face, simply placing it on your face to remove the excess. © Cover Media
