Kenzo fragrances have always been well-loved by scent-thusiasts throughout the world. From its best-selling Flower By Kenzo to the water-inspired L’Eau Par Kenzo, the various fragrances tell a different story, yet still representing the unique brand values.
Taking a leaf from founder Kenzo Takada’s crazy stunts on the runway (think wild animals on the catwalk with Takada atop an elephant), the latest fragrance – aptly named Madly Kenzo - embodies that wild and audacious take on creativity.
The scent draws inspiration from colourful psychedelic butterflies – as can be seen clearly on the campaign images and even the packaging – and is meant to convey the feeling of freedom and being full of life.
Perfumer Aurelien Guichard came up with a sensual scent that is used in both the Eau de Parfum and Eau de Toilette by combining the Heliotrope Flower (an ingredient that is rarely used in perfumery) with Virginian Cedarwood.
With that scent as the floral heart note of the Madly Kenzo Eau de Parfum, Guichard added top notes of orange blossom before rounding up with a base note of cedar, vanilla and incense, giving it a sensuous trail.
On the other hand, the Madly Kenzo Eau de Toilette is given a fruity twist that opens with sparkling fruity top notes of pear and litchi, the same floral heart note of the heliotrope and a base note of white musk and cedarwood.
So whether you prefer the fruity scent or the floral sensual one, there is definitely something for you.
Coincidentally, both the new Madly Kenzo Eau de Parfum and Madly Kenzo Eau de Toilette will be released at the same time, a first for the brand.
What also interesting about the new releases, are the atypical bottles. Created by Ron Arad, a fragrance bottle designer who also created the limited edition Unidentified Fragrance by Kenzo in 2009, the bottles are his reimagination of a stylised butterfly wing in motion. Sounds cool? We think so too.
The Eau de Toilette is coloured pink while the Eau de Parfum is a vibrant purple.
