They crafted, they voted and they walked away with a Gucci bag!

Well, that’s exactly what happened to Freda Lai and Irene Low, who were amongst hundreds of entrants who took part in our Gucci Icons of Heritage Cut & Craft contest.

The Gucci Icons of Heritage Cut & Craft is part of the luxury label’s annual effort to support a charitable organisation while allowing members of the public to experience the brand’s heritage at the same time.

This year, the folks at Gucci rolled out a project that was entertaining, crafty and therapeutic at the same time.

All readers had to do was to download the stencil of a Gucci bag from Facebook, print it out and design it however they please – almost like customising your own bag.

Gucci donated $100 for every bag that was completed to Mainly I Love Kids (MILK) and another $10 for every vote garnered on Facebook.

And because of the sheer number of entrants and the overwhelming response this year, Gucci contributed a total of $40,000 to the MILK fund.

Gucci will also award two participants with a Gucci Bamboo and a Gucci Stirrup bag respectively, based on their designs.

The two winners – Lai and Low - were chosen by fashion icon and creative director of Gucci, Frida Giannini herself, to walk away with the signature bags.

Freda Lai's creation

Lai shared her elation about her win, "I've always loved being creative with paper crafts. When I found out about this initiative, I simply couldn't pass up such an enjoyable way for me to do my bit for the kids that MILK supports. Being selected as a winner is truly a bonus that I wasn't expecting. The motherly part of me is happy to have done something for the children; the woman in me is thrilled to be getting a gorgeous new bag!"

Irene Low's creation

Low on the other hand, was stoked. “I approached the Cut and Craft project with a sense of fun and utmost admiration for the impeccable craftsmanship of Gucci’s artisans in creating the Bamboo bag. That the Gucci heritage has lent itself to a charitable cause for children through the social media with Herworldplus  has offered me a creative and refreshing opportunity to support in a charity. I am truly glad that $40,000 has been raised for the MILK fund .”

We congratulate Lai and Low on their creative designs but most of all, we would like to thank all the hundreds of participants for your effort and contributing to the MILK fund.

With this year’s campaign being a ton of fun, we simply can’t wait to see what Gucci has in store for next year!
