As every fashionista will know, monochrome continues to be a huge trend this season. But whereas black and white attire is a staple in every girl's wardrobe, it's less likely you will reach for this colour combination when perfecting your Saturday night makeup. The new way to wear monochrome is on your face, so get on board and rock the look.
The easiest way to channel this trend is via classic smokey eye makeup with a new twist. CID Cosmetics i-shadow has all the colours you need, ranging from a silver-white to the darkest grey. The smooth, rich colours help to bounce light off your face and create a flawless look. Use the darker colours on your lid, starting with a medium grey at the inner corner and blending out into black. Use the white shadow underneath your eye to brighten the area and simultaneously make your eyes look bigger. Finish off with a generous coating of mascara, such as L'Oréal Volume Million Lashes.
The monochromatic makeup look was also huge on the Fall/Winter 13 runway. Helmut Lang broke up black and white clothing with pops of colour and reflected a similar beauty trend. Models' skin was creamy and almost translucent, with the darker side to the look coming from strong brows.
“The girls with dark hair have bold brows, while the blonde girls have muted ones. It’s monochromatic, but I wanted the girls to feel real and beautiful,” lead artist Hannah Murray for Nars Cosmetics explained on the brand's Facebook page.
You can also have the trend right at your fingertips with a monochrome manicure. There are plenty of black and white polishes around, which can be applied via a nail-art brush in a variety of patterns. Stripes are sophisticated, while polka dot will give any outfit a cute edge. If you don't have the steady hand to do it yourself, try nail wraps from brands such as Nails Inc. and Jamberry Nails. © Cover Media/ Photo: Showbit
