Big Edie and Little Edie, the eccentric inhabitants of the Grey Gardens mansion in Long Island, have long been muses for documentaries, movies and even magazine fashion spreads. This season, the mother and daughter provide the inspiration for Bimba & Lola’s Autumn Winter 2013 collection.
Once socialites, Big Edie and Little Edie degenerated into a life of squalor and it’s their faded headscarves, once-luxurious outfits and vintage heirloom jewellery that are reflected in the aesthetics of the collection.
These pair of trousers – the print is a cross between chevron stripes and tips of fallen leaves, similar to the geometric shapes found on both Edies’ clothing – is one of the standouts in the collection. True to the retro vibe, the pants are high-waisted and straight cut – a forgiving shape for everyone.
