Amidst the conviviality and good cheer this time of the year, it can be easy to forget that awful things continue to happen on a daily basis: 500 new cases of HIV are reported right here in Singapore annually.
To shake things up for World AIDS Day 2013, MTV’s Staying Alive Foundation has partnered Durex Singapore to hold a #SomeoneLikeMe bash to hammer home the message that HIV can, and does, happen to girls and guys like us … a reality which we can change, one person at a time.
Here’s how you can help – and have a good time while you’re at it. This Saturday, November 30, The Butter Factory will be transformed into a cool hub of goodwill. Fronted by hosts and MTV VJs Hanli Hoefer and Alan Wong, the #SomeoneLikeMe party will pulse with slinky beats courtesy of top-name DJs from the AOS Collective group.
The merrymaking is aimed at reiterating the need for taking proactive steps to protect oneself. Remember, sexual health and sex education are crucial to stemming the spread of the disease!
As for the rest of this November, Durex will donate 10 cents to Action for AIDS per packet of Durex condoms sold at Giant, Cold Storage and Guardian stores. Durex will also match each Durex condom pack sold at Watsons by donating one condom to Action for AIDS.
