Is beauty the new fashion fad? Following on the lucite heels of Tom Ford and Christopher Bailey of Burberry, Michael Kors has also dipped his manicured toes into the lucrative grooming industry with a suite of scents, body unguents and colour cosmetics.
For the fashion brand’s first foray into the beauty world, Kors will release a full collection centred on the “moods” of a modern mademoiselle: Sporty, Sexy and Glam, each with its own “fragrance statement”.
In the spirit of the fast-paced campaign accompanying the launch, here’s a quick runthrough of the three scents. Sporty Citrus is spry and crisp with mandarin orange and creamy vanilla notes; Sexy Amber has its namesake ingredient veiled in spicy sandalwood and mellow musk; while Glam Jasmine is an ultra-feminine ode to the designer’s favourite flower, given bite with a shot of warm orange liqueur.
As for the campaign, Duran Duran’s fabulously catchy ditty “Girls on Film” serves as a sonic backdrop to model Karmen Pedaru, who kicks off a day in the life of a Michael Kors woman by emerging leg-first from her private flight onto a helipad ...
Helmed by industry heavyweights Mario Testino and Stephen Gan, the short film could stand as a lavish piece of visual art unto itself. Judge for yourself below!
The Michael Kors Sporty, Sexy and Glam Eau de Parfums, $79 for 30 ml, $121 for 50 ml and $158 for 100 ml, are available at Tangs Orchard and Takashimaya.
The Makeup Collection, which includes lip gloss (Lip Luster, $40), high-shine lipstick (Lip Lacquer, $40) and a Michael Kors Bronze Powder Brush, $70, will be available exclusively at the Michael Kors flagship counter at Robinsons Orchard starting Dec 27, 2013.
