In what may be a sign of the growing industry recognition that it’s the real women who pull the purse strings, American beauty giant Estée Lauder has announced that it has signed the legendary Stephanie Seymour to star in its upcoming campaigns.
Backgrounder on the glamour girl in question: Stephanie Seymour, a longtime muse of designer Azzedine Alaïa and mother of four, has previously fronted ads for beauty biggies like Revlon, L’Oréal and Dior, among others.
If you're into the Manhattan society scene, you'll also be well aware that Stephanie's cherubic-faced teenage sons, the fabulous Peter Brant II and Harry, are closely watched fashionistas in their own right, with their every move breathlessly followed on stylestyle blogs everywhere.
Speaking about her new Lauder gig, Stephanie says her appointment is the culmination of a childhood “prophecy”: "As a young girl my mother had a dream for me and that was to be an Estée Lauder model! So this is truly a dream fulfilled.”
Interestingly, the new campaign is expected to revolve around “a new elevated platform in the luxury beauty space”, according to Jane Hertzmark Hudis, global brand president of Estée Lauder.
Lauder reps have declined to elaborate on what this “new elevated platform” would entail – a mobile app? A hologram? A surprise cameo by her sons? – so watch this space for the full campaign reveal later this year.
