Well, colour us pleasantly surprised at this bit of news. Jessica Lange has sashayed her way to the very vanguard of the “mature model” movement by fronting Marc Jacobs Beauty’s new campaign.
The multiple award-winning actress – the woman is 64 years old! – caused a seismic warp in the online beauty universe when she was announced today as the new star of Marc Jacobs’ recently launched beauty line of point and base makeup.
Helmed by auteur David Sims, the first image of the campaign shows Jessica reclining on a scarlet chaise longue with big, big hair and gilded glossy lids, looking for all the world like a regal temptress from another era.
Pop culture pundits will no doubt note the deliciously dark irony in Jessica’s Marc Jacobs gig – the actress has played various iterations of a bitter old crone craving youth and immortality in all three seasons of the American Horror Story television series.
In any case, Marc Jacobs’ decision to tap Jessica Lange for his new line is a shrewd move on his part: It’s got all of us talking, and there’s something very gratifying about seeing grown women being celebrated for their glorious, lived-in beauty!
