We’re hardly stylish by any stretch of the word – our wardrobe’s almost entirely made up of scratchy sweaters and geeky gingham shirts! – but we do love a well designed bag, especially the phenomenal purses by Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler fame.
If you’re as psyched as we are at having an entire suite of Proenza Schouler palettes to stuff into your PS11 clutch come April 2014 – talk about being matchy matchy! – right now is the time to start planning your mode of attack …
Stop press! Originally slated to roll out next week, a little birdie has just informed us that the heavily hyped collectibles have been pushed back a wee bit due to “production issues” (her words). Mum’s the word on the exact launch date, but we can tell you that the first port of call will be the M.A.C cabin at Takashimaya Shopping Centre.
No matter. Mapping out a good battle plan is of the essence (and serum?) when it comes to storming the ford and warding off ravenous makeup junkies clawing for their fix. Presenting our curated selection of the four must-haves you should make a beeline for when the capsule collection hits counters:
Blush Ombre in Sunset Beach, $50
These are the bee’s knees, as far as we’re concerned. Take two or three if your beauty budget allows, because by golly, are these premium baked bricks veritable works of art. Lest you think slapping this on will give you clownish, two-toned cheeks, “ombre” in maquillage-speak refers to the beguiling butterfly-wing glimmer rippling across the brick’s surface.

The kaleidoscopic effect isn’t half as scary as it looks in the pan: Expect a flirty flush that’s very fetching on perfectly primed skin. Grab your fluffiest domed brush – M.A.C’s trusty 129 will do in a jiffy – and buff the blush into the highest contours of your cheeks. If in doubt, use clean fingers to palpate your face; you should place the product right where the skin feels thinnest, just below the hollows of your eyes.
We find that confining the colour within this horizontal wedge “lifts” the face and lends a coquettish, coolly elegant air that’s very compelling, not unlike the girls walking the Mary Katrantzou’s Autumn 2014 show.
Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in High Energy, $39
Beauty observers will know that orange is Spring’s new red; it’s been drilled ad infinitum by women’s rags everywhere (count us among the lot). This creamy pencil in tantalising tangerine is a brilliant way to cop the look without committing full-time to citrus.
Anya Hindmarch Autumn Winter 2014
Make like Anya Hindmarch and ensure that all eyes are on your lips by filling them in with said satiny salmon pencil, then smudging inwards for a barely there stain. Worn judiciously as an accent colour, orange lips are a fabulous way of introducing a flash of runway flair to your face.
Pro Longwear Eye Liner in Rich Experience, $39
We’re not the biggest fans of powder quads for the peepers: Most formulas have a stubborn affinity for accentuating fine lines around the eyes. Instead, smoke up the joint the modern way by glossing up the entire lid with a creamy liner.
DKNY Autumn Winter 2014
Snag the sexy shine on the eyes of the girls at DKNY’s Autumn 2014 show by rimming the upper and lower lash line with this pencil in the most delicious of molten chocolate, then blurring the harsh demarcations with a good swipe of a wet brush.
Lipstick in Primrose, $39
Here’s a suggestion: Juice up on orange for day, then help yourself to a heaping serving of a squishier fruit for night. A glazed plum will make your pout the pillowy protagonists of your evening soiree.
Max Mara Autumn Winter 2014
Having swatched this Proenza Schouler lippie in Primrose for ourselves, we’re pleased to report that this particular shade is nigh-impossible to beat. Shellac it on for smoke detector-busting smoulder, and re-apply very liberally to give your girlfriends a good eyeful of the designer lacquer case!
