You’ll never believe Captain America is 73 years old. With Chris Evans wearing form-fitting white tops while flipping through the air, you kind of forget that he is supposed to be. The movie starts off fast, leaving little room for any breathing space.
The opening scene starts with a new character being introduced, Anthony Mackie portraying Sam Wilson. Previously starring in The Fifth Estate next to hottie Benedict Cumberbatch, we figured he will be playing an important role in this film (and possibly in future Marvel series). Before we could fully digest what was going on, we learn that a S.H.I.E.L.D (which stands for Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division) ship has been compromised, and you guessed it - Captain America is going to save the day.
During the mission, Black Widow, played by Scarlett Johansson, appears to be dishing something else on the sidelines - as she is seen stealing information from the very vessel that she is trying to save. Captain America walks in on this, and he isn’t happy. He goes through an entire emotional turmoil, questioning S.H.I.E.L.D and all his beliefs as a soldier. Despite this scene being a little bit old school and completely random, you will later realise the movie is grounded on his very questions.
In the midst of all this, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) is revealed to be the “mastermind” behind the chaos. There are a lot of plot twists and confusion, mixed with state of the art animation. The result is a sleek film that blows your mind away. Apart from the awesome graphics, the film’s characters don’t disappoint. We were very pleased to see directors Anthony and Joe Russo, who also happen to be brothers, successfully revamp the “old” characters portrayed in the first movie. Expect to see the characters embrace modernity mixed with emotional depth.
The movie ends rather expectedly, but be sure to stay tuned for two end credits. By the looks of it, the Avengers are going to have a very exciting year ahead.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is showing in cinemas from March 27. For more information, visit www.marvel.com or follow the movie on Facebook.
