Famous for co-founding The Sloane Clinic with her husband, Dr Kenneth Lee, Dr Low Chai Ling is one hot mama. The 40-year-old aesthetic doctor runs her own clinic (amongst the six that she owns in the region). And in spite of her many ventures, the mother of two children is a go-getter with a lot of energy.
IN THE WAITING ROOM
Dr Low conducts her practice at Chevron House, situated in the busy sphere of the central business district. I arrived before my scheduled appointment time, and sat myself down on the only sofa in the waiting room. Surprisingly, there were no other patients in the waiting area, instead, all I saw were two business executives who had just (presumably) finished their lunch time treatments.
I had previously consulted her husband, Dr Kenneth Lee, at their Holland Village branch in the past (but I had never met or consulted with Dr Low before). And unlike other clinic experiences, I didn’t manage to speak to the clinic assistants, as I had barely warmed up the seat before being told Dr Low would be seeing me right away.
CONSULTATION
Dr Low was bursting with energy from the get go. She immediately sat me down and complimented my skin (I had presumed she had seen my acne-laden photos from the past). I began telling her my concerns about clogged pores, and she rattled away the different causes: hormones, genes, and even how the position of our hair contributes as well (oily fringes cause pimples on the forehead sometimes!).
She then went on to explain the “unique” skin type I have, and told me that it is completely normal to have the occasional clogged pore every now and then. After asking about the products I was using, Dr Low commented that she believes I shouldn’t use too many products each time: Her reason? If I’m using 10 products, each product has to compete with the other nine; whereas if I stick to say five products, there will be less competition, increasing the efficacy of my skin care regime.
I asked Dr Low how long each consultation would be, and she told me she had dedicated a fair bit of time to me. This made me realise why there wasn’t a long line of waiting patients at her clinic: Ample time was given to each consult, so you don’t have to worry about having your appointment squeezed between other patients!
Apart from this, the consultation felt like a very informative class about all I needed to know about clogged pores. (P.S. Did you know that your skin does get sensitised to facial products? Dr Low told me to use different moisturisers for the day and night to maximize efficacy)
TREATMENT
Dr Low gave me two options regarding my issues: Products that will clear sebum and build-up of dead skin on my face, or go for their Clean & Clear programme. A “lunch-time” facial that makes use of photobiomodulation (lights that kill bacteria and improve your skin condition).
The Clean & Clear programme is best suited for patients who wish to clear their acne without the use of oral medication (such as antibiotics). I didn’t think my skin was that bad, so I decided to use the products she suggested.
HAPPILY EVERY AFTER
I went home very eager to try Sloane Inc’s products, after all, they did clear my acne last time. This time around, Dr Low gave me a regime for my sensitive skin and pore issues, of which most were non-prescription based products you can buy on their website. I was most happy about the Pumpkin Purifying Peel, a superfood exfoliator that was said to clear my pores (using fruit enzymes) while exfoliating my face.
RECOMMENDED FOR
Dr Low Chai Ling at the Sloane Clinic’s Chevron House outlet is recommended for the busy office professional and someone who wants treatments from head to toe. Dr Low’s chain of clinics house nine doctors, who offer services ranging from plastic surgery to body treatments (hair removal, slimming, and everything in between). So you won’t have to be referred to another clinic if you want a nose job.
I had the impression that most of their facial treatments are also catered to fit into the lunch hour, so they are very suited for the busy executive. If you’re looking for a complete aesthetic treatment with very little waiting time, The Sloane Clinic might be just your cup of tea.
