Janelle Monáe lands beauty contract with CoverGirl

Janelle Monáe is "truly honoured" to be named the newest face of CoverGirl.

The singer has been unveiled as the latest spokeswoman for the legendary cosmetics brand. Grammy nominee Janelle will have her face featured in multiple magazine adverts and TV commercials promoting the CoverGirl line of products, and is thrilled at the prestigious appointment.

"Becoming a CoverGirl is truly an honour and a gift," Janelle gushed in a statement according to E! Online. "It opens up a new platform for me to inspire women to feel stronger, braver and more beautiful inside and out."

Janelle has a reputation for possessing her own individual style and has enjoyed experimenting with her look in the past. The star has spoken about her idols in the industry and says Tyra Banks is someone she feels sets a good example for girls today.

Janelle revealed her impressions of seeing the former CoverGirl in magazines when she was younger influenced her decision to accept the coveted title herself.

"Growing up and trying to find myself as a woman and experimenting with makeup, I'd go buy magazines. I'd see Tyra Banks [in the CoverGirl ads] and I'd think, Wow, she's beautiful," Janelle continued. "It never looked like she had on too much makeup. There was just something clean and classic about her face."

In an interview in 2010 Janelle's unique and striking appearance was noted. Although she had not yet hit the big time, her strong look struck a chord with the interviewer.

"Dressed in her trademark starched shirt and tuxedo, hair immaculately quaffed, Monáe’s face is an opaque mask of perfection: all silken smooth skin, button nose and glassy brown eyes," the Telegraph newspaper reporter wrote. © Cover Media
