Three new lip colour ranges promise to be moisturising, rich and glossy. We find out how they measure up.
Clinique Chubby Stick Intense, $26 The brand's best-selling Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm now comes in more intense shades. The crayon lipsticks promise to soften lips like a lip balm while covering them in rich colours. Available in eight new shades that are infused with shea butter, mango seed butter and jojoba seed oil. Available at Clinique counters from February 2013. Review: These lipsticks do just what the brand promises. The colours are pigmented and feel creamy on the lips. The crayon shape also makes application fuss-free. My pick of the crop: The skin-brightening cherry red Mightiest Maraschino in No. 3 (left).
L'Oreal Paris Shine Caresse, $18.90 The liquid lipsticks in this new range come in eight shades and a lightweight gel texture that promises to be long-wearing and shiny. Each tube comes with an angled felt applicator that has a hole in the middle to ensure just the right amount of lipstick is applied on the lips. Available from Watsons, Guardian and Sasa stores Review: Light and non-sticky, this liquid lipstick goes on sheer upon the first application. The colour becomes brighter with each layer. It also leaves a nice stain when the lipstick is gone after a meal or drink. The felt applicator is easy to use and creates perfectly-shaped bold lips. I like the pretty fuchsia Eve in No. 605, which has a subtle shimmer. This range is a good alternative to YSL Beaute's Rouge Pur Couture Vernis A Levre liquid lipstick for those who want a more affordable and less pigmented option.
Yves Saint Laurent Beaute Rouge Volupte Shine, $45 This range of lipsticks comes in 19 new shades that are less pigmented and glossier than those in the original best-selling Rouge Volupte range. Made with two times more soft waxes than a regular lipstick for a creamy texture, it also contains hyaluronic acid and emollients to hydrate; antioxidants, such as pomegranate and rice extracts, to protect; and candelilla wax and silicon oils to give a shiny finish. Available from YSL Beaute boutiques, such as #B2-34 Ion Orchard. Review: The lipstick glides on easily and melts into lips to give a sheer veil of colour that can be intensified when layered. The colours are easy to wear too - even the darkest purple shade Violet Incognito in No. 3 - because my natural lip colour still shows through it. These lipsticks are great for those who want to wear bold colours but are not too sure if they can pull them off. I also like how the formula moisturises my lips like a balm. The fruity scent is another plus. My favourite is Pink Devotion in No.6, a juicy and translucent bright pink shade.
