When it comes to fashion, dressing in one colour from head to toe may be intimidating for the common shopper but for Autumn Winter 2013, Paris-based fashion label Germain – named after the famous Boulevard Saint Germain in the French capital – will change the way you look at monotone looks.
Looks from the Germain Autumn Winter 2013 collection
Staying true to its minimalistic DNA, Germain redefines the classic montone – generally either in all black or all white; but it can mean wearing only shades of the same colour. Think lush materials like tweed, wool and leather worked into loose pleats and irregular cuts that fit into the city girl’s wardrobe seamlessly. The shapes may be simple but the looks are fierce and modern – like surprising zig zag cut outs for example.
The monotone theme extends to the use of brilliant hues like fluorescent pink and sky blue. A striking pink top-to-toe ensemble – including a long coat that is made of felt at the front and neoprene at the back – is a star standout look.

The day looks are impressively wearable, so too are the brand’s Autumn Winter 2013 evening dresses which are equally minimalist with a sportswear touch – some clingy tank dresses have a sporty contrasting line running down the side panels and high-low hemlines. An element of understated sexiness is projected with sheer gauze details. There’s also an interesting cocktail dress made of the same net-mesh material used in Nike sport shoes – a fun play on athleticism.
